Bourbon Chicken

Bourbon Chicken is your go-to for a quick, tasty dinner. In just 30 minutes, you’ll have a plateful of sticky-sweet goodness. No fancy chef skills needed here.

Grab 1.5 pounds of chicken thighs and chop them up. Mix soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, and maybe a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like a little kick. Let the chicken swim in this flavor pool for at least 10 minutes.

Now, heat up some vegetable oil in a pan. Toss in the chicken and cook until it’s brown and cooked through – about 5 to 7 minutes. Don’t forget to stir.

Save some of that marinade to make a sauce. Pour it in, let it simmer, and watch it get a bit thicker. Take the pan off the heat, and let the chicken take a breather for 5 minutes.

Chop some green onions and sprinkle them, along with sesame seeds, over the chicken. Serve it on a pile of rice, and you’re done. Dinner is served, and you didn’t need a culinary degree.

If you want to mix things up, throw in some veggies like bell peppers or broccoli. Want more heat? Adjust those red pepper flakes. And hey, make a double batch if you’re feeling extra hungry or want leftovers for tomorrow. Enjoy this easy, tasty Bourbon Chicken..

  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for heat
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for cooking
  • 2 tablespoons green onions chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

  • Prepare Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Marinate Chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the bowl, ensuring they are well-coated in the marinade. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  • Cook Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Create Sauce: Pour any remaining marinade into the skillet and let it come to a simmer. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, stirring frequently.

  • Serve: Serve the Bourbon Chicken over a bed of cooked rice.

Notes

  1. You can customize the spice level by adjusting the amount of red pepper flakes.
  2. For a richer flavor, allow the chicken to marinate for a longer time.

  4. Double the recipe for a larger crowd or for delicious leftovers.
